Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande breaks her musical silence with the release of her new single 'yes, and?' and announces her upcoming album 'Eternal Sunshine'. The song addresses rumors and criticisms she has faced, while the album's title is inspired by a line from a poem

After more than three years of anticipation, Ariana Grande fans finally got what they were waiting for on Friday. The singer ended her musical silence by releasing a new single titled 'yes, and?' and also announced the name of her upcoming album, 'Eternal Sunshine'.

Many critics have noted that the song draws inspiration from 80s and 90s pop, specifically Madonna's 'Vogue' and Beyoncé's early work. 'yes, and?' becomes an anthem for freedom to do whatever one pleases. The lyrics send a clear message: 'Your business is yours, and mine is mine. Why do you care so much whose dick I ride?', with a direct reference to male genitalia.

The song addresses the rumors and criticisms that the 30-year-old artist has faced since her separation from ex-husband Dalton Gomez and her subsequent relationship with Ethan Slater, her co-star in her first leading role film. Part of her musical silence was due to the filming of 'Wicked', the screen adaptation of the musical set in the Wizard of Oz universe, which was also delayed by the Hollywood writers and actors strike.

Produced by Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, the single combines nostalgic composition with lyrics that delve into the realm of autofiction and references to Grande's personal life. It touches on comments about her body and the importance of moving forward despite past hardships, allowing the future to bring whatever comes next.

In addition, Grande references the lipstick, which has become the symbol of her new album. From the cover art to the emojis used by fans to refer to it, the album takes its name from the beginning of the original title of the film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', which is a line from an 18th-century English poet Alexander Pope.
