سورة الواقعة هي سورة مكية، من المفصل، آياتها 96، وترتيبها في المصحف 56، في الجزء السابع والعشرين، بدأت بأسلوب شرط: إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ ، نزلت بعد سورة طه. لم يذكر في السورة لفظ الجلالة، والواقعة اسم من أسماء يوم القيامة في الإسلام. تعالج قضية النشأة الآخرة، رداً على قول الشاكين فيها: وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ أَوَآَبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
