Backstreet Boys Singer Opens Up About Battle With Alcohol Addiction

Backstreet Boys singer, AJ McLean, shares his struggles with alcoholism and his journey towards recovery.

AJ McLean, the American singer and member of the popular boy band Backstreet Boys, has opened up about his battle with alcohol addiction. In an interview with People magazine, the 45-year-old artist admitted that sobriety has been a challenging journey for him, emphasizing that fighting alcohol dependency has become a part of his daily routine. After completing the Backstreet Boys tour in May, McLean checked himself into a rehabilitation center for a ten-week preventive program. He revealed that his struggle with alcoholism intensified between 2017 and 2019 while performing regular concerts in Las Vegas with the band. "It's not about the city. Addiction follows you everywhere, so the city is not to blame. It's definitely a city of sin, but that's not the issue. I could drink like a fish anywhere, and I know where it would lead me if I took even one sip," McLean stated. Earlier, another woman accused Nick Carter, another member of the Backstreet Boys, of sexual assault. This came after two other women had already made similar allegations against the artist. The third woman, identified only as AR, filed a lawsuit on August 28th, claiming that Carter assaulted her when she was a teenager.
