Years & Years Singer Wants To Bring Back The Atmosphere Of The Dance Floor Of The Eighties

Olly Alexander is back as Years & Years after a role in the hit series It's A Sin about the AIDS epidemic in the UK in the 1980s. In conversation with NU.nl, the singer, who broke through in 2015 with the hit King , says that he would like to bring back the atmosphere of the dance floor of the eighties in his new music.

"The Eighties influences in my new music are certainly largely due to It's A Sin, " says Alexander, who releases the new single Starstruck three years after the previous Years & Years album Palo Santo .

"Imagine you were on the dance floor at the time and you heard songs from the Pet Shop Boys, Human League and Joy Division for the first time. The dance floor is truly a sacred place, especially at the time. because it just might have happened at the time that you wouldn't hear the song for the rest of the month. The energy and spirit of those songs is so inspiring. ”

Starstruck was created during a stay in the countryside to write new music. "I've been writing songs for over ten years now and sometimes you have a song that comes into being in a very short time. It doesn't happen often, but when it works like with Starstruck , the result is often good. I like the positive and happy atmosphere of the song. This is why I want to make music. I miss dancing and being with my friends. I put that in the music and it feels good. "
