Anitta Ends Contract With Warner Music After Criticisms

Anitta, the Brazilian singer, has announced the end of her contract with Warner Music after a series of criticisms towards the label.

On April 4th, 2023, Anitta announced that she is no longer with Warner Music after eleven years of partnership. The singer released a statement along with the label about the end of their contract. "After eleven years of partnership, we agreed to follow different paths. Anitta would like to thank the Warner Music team for all their support. And the Warner team wishes Anitta all the best in her future," the statement read in English. The split came after a series of criticisms from Anitta towards the label. In May 2022, she stated that the label "only gives me money to invest in something after it's gone viral." On February 1st, 2023, during a conversation with fans on Twitter, the singer mentioned her desire to end the contract with the label. On March 8th, 2023, she publicly criticized Warner for lack of support and asked for a meeting with the CEO of the label. Now, on April 4th, 2023, the singer and the label have finally announced the end of their contract. On March 8th, 2023, International Women's Day, the Instagram profile of Warner Music Latina posted images of the Latin artists in the label's portfolio, including Anitta. The singer used the image from the post and published a criticism on her Instagram in English. "Communication at Warner is so good that they put me in the looping post of Happy Women's Day even though I had to go public asking for 'respect for women' that this day represents," she wrote. "Using a song in the background that they said wouldn't go viral without a feature because I wasn't strong enough for it." She then said she asked the CEO how much it would cost to end the contract with them and received the response that "this wouldn't happen." "On Women's Day, instead of a cute post, I would love to have the CEO do what he promised me a month ago, after I asked how much it would cost to end the contract and he said that wouldn't happen," she continued. "Respect me, a young woman, giving at least a little real importance to a fair, honest, and respectful conversation that I asked to have with you, instead of sending your lawyers to talk to mine about money when I said I already accepted the sad and unfair fact that I am the biggest investor here and asked the label to just do the simple job they should do: promote my music." The artist also wrote that she "would love to have the price of my contract. (A fair price, by the way, according to the amount of money that Warner invested). I asked a few times, but they were useless attempts." In May of last year, artists exposed the pressure from labels for virals on TikTok. Anitta, at the time, stated that the label "only gives me money to invest in something after it's gone viral." The end of the partnership between Anitta and Warner Music marks a new chapter in the singer's career, and fans are eager to see what's next for her.
